Our Journey

Three decades of innovation.

Our journey began in 1999, when Alan Schauder, Andros Georgiades, and Rowena Ryan founded the company, bringing with them extensive experience from their careers at The Walt Disney Company in consumer products. Alan and Andros, who had been working across Asia Pacific markets, saw an opportunity to support the growing consumer products industry. Initially established as a brand licensing consulting agency and creative services firm, we quickly expanded our services to help brands build, grow, and extend their presence globally.

Merchantwise Pty Ltd established in Melbourne Australia
2005
DC develops long tail search software for paid advertising in the travel and related sectors.
2008
DC becomes the leading paid advertising agency in Australia.
2012
DC appointed as media agency for Fiji Airways.
2013
inc Digital Media agency established in Sydney by Australian Radio Network.

SmartMail established by founder Daniel Kohn, providing email marketing services to e-commerce clients throughout the world.
2015
DC introduces specialist media services for e-commerce. MashrMail email software is first developed for Disneyland Paris.
2017
DC develops proprietary product feed software for Google Shopping (Pmax) and other platforms.
2018
DC appointed as media agency for True Alliance.
SmartMail acquired by Merchantwise Group.
2019
DC wins back-to-back Google Premier Partner Awards.
2020
Dynamic Creative separates into two businesses:
- FeedOps – advertising technology
- RQmedia – media and performance marketing
inc Digital Media acquired by Merchantwise Group.
2021
RQ wins Microsoft Rising Star Award.
2022
RQ acquired by Merchantwise Group. Dr Narelle Hutchesson appointed as CEO.
2023
RQ wins Hashtag Asia Award for Best Social Selling / Commerce Campaign.

James is a seasoned professional with 30 years’ experience in the media, technology and industrial sectors. Mr. Scott is currently a non-executive director of Boom Logistics an operational advisor to private equity firm Liverpool Partners, a non-executive director of Orbx Pty Ltd, Chairman of MerchantWise Group Pty Ltd, Chairman of Seisma Pty Ltd and Chairman of Simplyai Pty Ltd.

James was previously the Chief Operating Officer of Seven Group Holdings, Chair of data & analytics business, Skyfii, non-executive of Integrated Research, Managing Director of Accenture Digital, Partner in KPMG’s Advisory division and was a founder and director of Imagine Broadband.

Since co-founding Merchantwise Group in 1999, Alan has led its evolution into Australasia's premier independent licensing agency, partnering with giants like Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and Sony Pictures. His leadership drives the continuous growth and success of all clients within Merchantwise Group, through the combination of licensing, creative, performance marketing and digital media capabilities that build and extend great brands.

With more than three decades of expertise in brand licensing and consumer products, Rowena has established herself as a respected figure in the Australian and New Zealand markets. Known for her professionalism, financial acumen, and strong client connections, she brings invaluable industry insight.

Before co-founding Merchantwise in 1999, Rowena completed a Bachelor of Business at Monash University. Post-graduation, she gained four years experience at Mattel, and five years at the Walt Disney Company.

In her current role as COO of Merchantwise Group, Rowena holds responsibility for overseeing all shared group services, including finance, legal, and HR, ensuring operational efficiency across the group.

Philippe Bost is an expert on Licensing and Consumer Products passionate about Brand Management, Consumer Trends and Entertainment.

 With over twenty years of consumer products experience, Philippe has worked in nearly every part of the industry. He has deep expertise in licensing, product development, manufacturing, category management, marketing strategy, ecommerce, and retail execution.

In his current role of Managing Director, he is driving the expansion of Merchantwise in International territories like EMEA, China or Nort Asia with a special focus on Gaming and Adult franchises.

Prior to Merchantwise, he served as Vice President of Activision-Blizzard for International Consumer Products, in Brazil as Mattel ‘Head for South America CP and as Managing Director for Disney Consumer Products for Spain and Portugal for more than 10 years.

Living in Sydney, Melbourne & Los Angeles Justin has worked as an agent, licensee and licensor, providing a unique blend of strategy, insight & industry relationships. During his international tenure as Marketing Director for knit top manufacturer Mighty Fine in Los Angeles Justin worked with leading US retailers and extended the companies own licensed brands to UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and China. In 2008 Justin founded BAM Brands an influential communications agency for Australian & International fashion brands. Currently, Justin is the co-founder and Managing Director of Asembl, one of APAC’s leading FMCG and lifestyle brand extension agencies, stewarding renowned global brands including Rip Curl, Coca-Cola, Unilever, and Perfetti Van Melle, driving innovation through brand extensions and partnerships.

Kerryn McCormack has over 30 years experience in IP licensing, brand management, product development, style guide development, creative development, publishing, location based experiences and home entertainment.  Kerryn has worked as a licensor with Warner Bros. during the 1990s in London and Cartoon Network in Hong Kong in the 2000s, and today, is currently the Managing Director at leading brand management agency Merchantwise, where she heads up a team across video game and entertainment brands.   

During her tenure at Cartoon Network in Hong Kong, Kerryn led a team of brand management experts across Asia Pacific developing extensive programs across all leading consumer products categories for successful launches for Ben 10, Jonny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls as part of the Cartoon Network Originals portfolios.

Paul has 30 years of experience in industry consulting to leading businesses in finance, media and government. He founded and was managing director of Impulse Screen Media which was acquired by Merchantwise Group in 2021 and previously founded other start-ups including WirelessOz and has also worked for large enterprises including SAP, CSC, Fineos and National Westminster Bank.

In his current role as Director of Technology and Performance he is focused on technology delivery, implementation and strategy development across the Merchantwise group ensuring all the team have the technology resources they need to perform at the highest level.

Nick continues to work with a number of globally recognised brands both locally and internationally, consulting on retail, creative direction, campaign, collaboration, range development, trend direction and business innovation.
